Striver Rita Rich gives ‘sound’ advice…
I saw a product review in InformationWeek on a new service from Gcast that supposedly makes producing a Podcast ‘as easy as making a phone call’. And I thought to myself, I should try this! I thought I’d ask Strive Partner Rita Rich, the radio expert, her opinion on the service. As you know, Rita is a radio/broadcast guru who has worked with Larry King, Jim Bohannon, Joan Rivers and probably every major US producer in the business.
Now, she spends quite a bit of her time helping blue-chip clients tap the powerful medium of Podcasting. Most recently, she’s been working with the US Census Bureau. Check her out on http://www.census.gov/pubinfo/www/broadcast/radio/special_radio_features/006583.html to hear a real pro at work.
She’s put together some Top Tips for those of us thinking of using the Gcast service:
1. Prepare an outline….practice what you’re going to say before you say it….practice it again…and if you start to ramble ….well, you know you’ll have to re-record the thing!
2. Reading a prepared written text might be the best way to go about it until you become more comfortable just working with notes or an outline. But, if you sound too ho-hum, you know, like you’re reading? You are bound to become boring.
3. Drawback to Gcast–voice quality is phone line quality.
4. Advantage to Gcast–once you get the hang of doing these things you can work with different systems and not be so afraid to record mp3 files on your harddrive and upload them to www.strivepr.com or other websites.
Well, I for one, will be trying it out…someday. Let us know if any of you have tried it! Have a great weekend everyone.
