More than three-quarters of RSS users are male
Well, this stat jumped out at me when I was looking at my RSS feed aggregator (I use Pluck).
I was scanning the headlines from my favourite PR blogs when I saw this story on Steve Rubel’s Micro Persuasion. He was reporting what he’d read on Media 2.0 who was, in turn, reporting on Ad Age’s 2006 Interative Fact Pack. (Echo echo echo…it’s the nature of the blogosphere :-)).
Anyway, I know that technology early adopters tend to be male; but ladies this stuff is not so new! It will make your lives so much easier! Get on board with RSS! I though I’d write a little RSS commercial for those Strivers that may not yet have taken the plunge.
RSS stands for ‘real simple syndication’, and it’s used by websites, bloggers and podcasters, among others. It feeds content summaries and links direct to your destop, for free, all categorised and organised so you can flip through it quickly. I am able to scan about 500 headlines a day using this tool. I read general news, business news, technolgy, PR and travel stories from around the world.
It takes me about half an hour a day, a fraction of the time it would take to visit all those website individually. (Let’s face it; I’d never have time to do that). It gives me a quick overview of how the major stories and cycles play out and lets me quickly see current trends and key issues. And, when I want to, I can click through to the original story to see all the details.
If you use Pluck, there is an idiot-proof download and a ‘feed finder’ to get you started. (Look under the consumer products section.) Once you are set up, you can add Strive Notes or other blogs and websites, and it will automatically pick up updates. But Pluck isn’t the only RSS in town. Neville Hobson gives a great overview of all the different services available.
OK ladies..don’t miss out on this free, time saving too. I wouldn’t give you a bum steer. Have a go and let us know if you like it.
