In blog we trust?

I wanted to point out story from the BBC that looks at the trust people put in media. It’s the findings of a study that found, on the whole, people tend to trust what the media tells them more than what their governments tell them. More than 10k people in 10 countries were surveyed.
Just three percent of respondents said that blogs were their main news source. And, 25 percent of respondents said they trusted what they learned from blogs, while 23 percent said they distrust blogs. This is a stat we should track. I wonder how the split will be 12 months from now?

I’ve been following these trends, too… I think 2006 will be the tipping point. I have been surprised that the readers of mom blogs are 29 (median age)… It has been very interesting to study.

I suppose people’s perception of the blogs is at the root of the matter. While I expect traditional media (newspapers, TV news) to provide an impartial report on current events; blogs tend to exhibit a more personal, subjective view on the matter at hand, often without first-hand experience on the event being reported on.
I’m a regular blog reader, but wouldn’t expect any of the blogs I visit to provide me with accurate, timely reporting of current news; which is why I subscribe to RSS feeds from news sites which I expect to be authoritative sources of such information.
