June 22nd: This week’s top 5
It’s been 20 days since I posted a Top 5 listing. So I’m well past due. Here are my faves for this week:
1. Is there a draft in here? I loved Jon Silk’s post about the writing skills of PR professionals. It struck a cord because the issue has come up with me at least half a dozen times over the past few weeks. “Do you you just do PR, or are you a writer?” is the question I’ve been getting. Answer: I do PR because I’m a writer!
2. Hooters goes piggyback Here Kami highlights a smart PR move by Hooters (yes, the ones in the orange shorts). They followed the first two rules of PR success. Do the right thing. Piggyback on a larger story. Just yesterday I tried to convince a client to use these tactics.
3. I always giggle when reading Hacking Cough, where Chris Edwards blogs about a journo’s view of PR. In Some guy’s in town he had me in stitches about pitches for CEO briefings. Make sure you read the comments too.
4. The fallacy of the ambush interview was posted by Eric Bergman to discuss media training tactics. He says they almost never happen and trainers are trying to ambush clients to gain authority. What do our Strive trainers think of this one?
5. Digg the new pr. Here Constantin Basturea explains the New PR website. This new Digg-type site will identify and promote the most interesting PR-related news. I recommend Strivers bookmark it.
And what have you all been reading?
