Stormbreaker showcases Island scenes

Go and see Stormbreaker.  This blog isn’t usually in the business of publishing movie reviews. PettyferBut I do try to tell people about the Isle of Man and our vibrant economy.  One of the biggest success stories of the past 10 years is Isle of Man Film which co-finances and co-produces major films and some TV programmes.

Directors love filming here because of the varied scenery along with our world-class support services.   Recent successes include The Libertine starring Johnny Depp, Colour me Kubrick starring John Malkovich and Lassie starring Peter O’Toole. A movie about Beatrix Potter, starring Rene Zelwegger, was filmed here earlier this year and will be released next year.

But back to Stormbreaker.  Go see it. It stars Ewan McGregor, Bill Nighy and Alex Petyfer among others.  It’s a fun kid-turned-spy story with lots of action and silly characters getting involved in some improbable situations. The opening scene showcases the stunning scenery on the Island and Port Erin (site of the Lifeboat race featured earlier this week on Strive Notes) also features prominently.  It’s in the cinema now.

Young Striver, account executive, Connor has pronounced the movie “sick”, which apparently means “good”.  What further endorsement do you need?
