August 18th: This week’s top 5

Five StarWe are now deeply into ”les grandes vacances”, but that hasn’t had much effect on the bloggers’ output.  Here are some great reads from the past week.

1.  Seth Godin looks at pushing out of our compfort zones in his post awkward.  I took a Lou Tice course a couple of years ago where I learned that getting ‘awkward’ was the route to personal and professional growth. I haven’t looked back.

2.  Over at Performancing, Ahmed Bilal gives corporate communicators some excellent advice on how to position blogging within the context of full service PR consulting so that clients take the medium seriously.

3. Mike nicely sums up our role as ‘pens for hire’. He calls it tough love.  I think he’s right.

4. One of my fave bloggers Niall Cook gets a new job at H&K. Congrats Niall, and have fun almost getting fired!

5. Over the past couple of weeks, Trevor Cook’s spent quite a bit of effort analysing the attitudes and ethics of the world’s biggest PR companies.  It’s shocking to see how many are talking the talk without walking the walk.

Dear Strivers…what have you been reading?

    All the best.

  2. Sorry for the sloppy comment. Meant to type “It really *didn’t* hit me what we have to do as communicators until I really thought about it.”

  3. Word of the Day…

Today’s word of the day is ‘awkward’.
In tribute to a post by Seth Godin, here’s my top 3 most recent awkward moments:

I can’t get to the train doors because the person beside me is sleeping. I’m going to miss my st…
