Axe to fall at Telegraph

Following in the footsteps of the Financial Times, The Telegraph has announced that it plans to morph from being a newspaper into a 24-hours news organisation providing information across a wide range of platform.  The Telegraph

Unfortunately this means that jobs will go, in addition to the 90+ voluntary redundancies that took place earlier this year.

Chief Executive Murdoch MacLennon is quoted in the Press Gazette as saying that the job cuts stem directly from the radical changes planned. This includes going to a full-colour format for the newspaper in addition to various new digital initiatives.

They haven’t announced how many jobs are at risk. But it seems to me that the change in business model is an excellent opportunity for The Telegraph both to remain relevant and revitalise the brand.   

The redundancies are unfortunate, but the changes are important if The Telegraph, one of the world’s most respected newspapers, is to survive.
