September 29th: this week’s top 5

Friday has come around quickly once again. So here’s this week’s round up of some of the blog posts I’ve enjoyed the most this week.five

1.  Todd Defren looks at the Paradox of Excellence: The better you perform, the more invisible you become.  How true that is. The client comes to expect to be on the front page of his main trade media every week.  And then is disappointed if he slips to page 2. But, as Todd says, “It’s rare, but, sometimes, sh!t happens.”

2. Pete Wilby asks, “Does PR need to work on its own PR?”  He has some interesting comments about the recent trouble for Talk PR (Strive Notes 21 Sept.) The hack v flack debate continues.

3. In Novel Thinking, Richard Bailey tells PR students, if you won’t read, I can’t teach you to write. He is 100 per cent correct on this.  It’s shocking that our young professionals don’t seem to understand the basics of communication.

4. The Bad Pitch blog has a hilarious post about a vineyard that sent nude pix of the owner out with a press release. The amateurish release runs in full along with feedback from the journo who blew the whistle. LOL.

5. The Forward Blog asks us all to share our pride in PR. They will be devoting an episode of the Forward Podcast to PR pride.  It’ll be comprised solely of comments submitted by new PR professionals from around the world. Chime in! Thanks to Stuart Bruce for pointing this out.

Tell me dear Strivers….what are you reading?
