October 13th: this week’s top 5
It hasn’t escaped me that today is actually the 14 October. Honestly, I completely forgot about the weekly top 5 yesterday. Sorry folks. Here they are…only one day late.
1. Shel Holtz talks about why and how Edelman has blown it AGAIN with the Walmart blogging strategy. And, now they’ve all but disappeared. Sheesh! You’d think a recognised global leader in social media could it right once in a while?
2. The Ante Up! blog has a good conversation going on about what Isle of Man-based NETELLER is doing to cope with the new US anti-online gambling legislation.
3. CNET and TechCrunch are sparring! bitemarks looks at how the two leading tech blogs are competing.
4. Lee Hopkins made me laugh with his spoof Abbot and Costello classic, “Hu’s on first?”
5. Is Wikipedia the first stop for social media strategies? GREENblog has the answer.
And what, dear Strivers have you all been reading?

Thanks for the plug, Sherrilynne.
Tom Murphy at Microsoft Ireland made the point a while back that SEO should be the first call for an online PR strategy. From a social media perspective, Wikipedia falls into this category for two reasons. Firstly it is an editable resource available to anyone and with big implications for reputation,. Secondly it helps with organic SEO. Two good reasons not to ignore it.
I was talking to someone from BNFL’s corporate comms team last week and asked if anyone checked their Wikipedia entry? She said no. I reckoned it’d be in the top 10 Google results… well try no 2!!
