For those who missed it, I summarized my notes for Tech Talk in this week’s Isle of Man Examiner, on sale [...]

Yesterday was Day One of the Fox’s Lair event here in the Isle of Man. We had six companies (some of the UK, some from the island, one from Canada) pitching for the necessary funds to take their businesses to the next step (a la Dragons Den). Here’s a question for you. How come, when over the past four weeks, nine sites have linked to Strive Notes, our rank on Technorati has not changed, it still shows 73 links from 26 blogs. Of those nine sites, five are new linkers, yet the overall stats don’t change. I don’t understand?
Anyway, I’d like to [...]

Yesterday was a sad day for all of us who work in the UK media industry. After 41 years the Press Gazette has stopped publishing. There had been hope that an industry consortium would buy this excellent trade magazine from the administrator, but the deal fell through earlier this week.
A few days ago, the Gazette’s Martin [...]

Thank you to everyone who came out to the BCS event last night at the Hilton in Douglas (except my stalker who could have stayed at home).
It was my pleasure to spend some time discussing how communication can help IT departments build positive relationships across the organisation. About 30 people came along and a lively Q&A session [...]

In this week’s Isle of Man Examiner, the Pink Page’s Tech Talk column looks at the value of domain names. With the sex.com domain recently selling for £7.3 million, it’s clear that Isle of Man companies need to think about their domains as part of a portoflio of intellectual assets. Don’t think because you’ve registered [...]

I was moving stuff around the office and came across my copy of John Naisbitt’s Megatrends, published in 1982. His predictions, seen with hindsight, make pretty interesting reading. Here’s a summary of some of his predictions, (and my feedback):
The shift from a post-industrial to an information society in which information becomes a major resource and [...]

Today’s executives recognise the crucial role that IT plays in the success of any organization. But without effective communications planning, the IT department risks missing opportunities to inform people of their true value and may even contribute to misunderstandings and negative perceptions of the IT function.

Just yesterday I was saying to an associate, “…a little scepticism is usually a good thing in a journalist.” We were discussing how some reporters fail to exhibit the cynicism that usually comes with the profession.
Then just this morning, I found Cynical IT Guy, Business 2.0’s IT guy on the way tech really works. It’s [...]

The quarterly state of the blogosphere report from Technorati is out. There are now more than 57 million blogsites online, and the blogosphere is doubling in size approximately every 230 days.
