November 10th: this week’s top 5

I have to admit, this week has been manic and I’ve not been able to do as much reading as I’d like. But still, I’ve found five great posts! Here they are:
1. Josh Hallet warns of the danger of Snake Oil Salesmen in the social media realm with his Shaking out things post.
2. Stephen Davies is throwing out his ideas on being a good PR consultant for blogosphere comment. He says, be good with people, be on top of the what’s going on the in the media, don’t be afraid to make a mistake, promote yourself and be sure to take each day as it comes. I’m not so sure I can agree with this. Surely being a good writer must make the top five. For me it’s number one.
3. WSJ’s StartupJournal gives an excellent overview on the influential TechCrunch, the technology blog on everyone’s RSS feed reader. The next time anyone says blogging is a waste of time, send this link.
4. Wired News reported about Gannett’s plans to start crowdsourcing the news. In short, it’s like wikipedia-style newsgathering. I think the idea has legs. It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out.
5. There is a very interesting (and very long!) dialogue going on at David Maister’s blog about negativity. Are bloggers too negative? Is it just easier to criticise than it is to create? Questions worth considering, I think (no offence intended Mr. Cynical IT Guy).
What has everyone else been reading?
