Press Gazette folds
Posted on November 25th, 2006 by sherrilynne
Yesterday was a sad day for all of us who work in the UK media industry. After 41 years the Press Gazette has stopped publishing. There had been hope that an industry consortium would buy this excellent trade magazine from the administrator, but the deal fell through earlier this week.
A few days ago, the Gazette’s Martin Stabe was named the Best Online Journalist in the Periodicals Training Council Awards. Yesterday he was given his cards.
The Gazette has been keeping me up to date on the media industry since I first moved to England in 1993. I’ll miss it.

Thanks for the kind words.
I’ll be attempting to carry on writing something like Fleet Street 2.0 on my personal blog.
That is very sad news. The Press Gazette has always been around, so it’s hard to accept that it is gone just like that. There is nothing comparable with the Press Gazette – at least not in terms of coverage and quality.
Nik, I agree totally. It’s a big loss. Martin, good luck and let us know where you land.
I just saw this on the PG site:
Press Gazette refuses to lie down

Promising talks between a potential buyer and the administrator of Press Gazette Ltd, Robert Allen of Vantage, suggest that the 41-year history of the title may not be over, after all.
Says Allen:”Watch this space. I can’t say much more because these things are sensitive but today is a new day. And I’m looking forward to it.”
