Communicating the value of IT
Without good communications, the IT department risks missing opportunities to inform people of their true value and may even contribute to misunderstandings and negative perceptions of the IT function.
Those in IT leadership roles do recognise the problem, but are often at a loss as to what they can do. Many take a haphazard approach to communications. The information going out of the department is strictly status oriented. Untargeted email blasts of project updates and new technology rollouts are sure to be ignored by most. Do the people in the call centre really need to know about a new accounting system? The result is a lot of white noise and you risk having important information fade into the background.
