July is here and so am I

I can’t tell you how guilty I feel about neglecting Strive Notes so badly these past few weeks. Business and life seems to be getting in the way of blogging. This guilt was compounded this morning when I checked the stats to find that, despite the lack of new content, visits to the blog were at an all time high in June. Thanks to everyone who keeps checking in, despite the scarcity of news. To help you catch up…here are some Isle of Man Examiner columns I’ve written recently.

It’s always a shame how real-life impinges on blogging time isn’t it! The trick is to make a slot in your day dedicated to catching up on your reading and writing. It’s hard to stick to, but if you stick it in your calednar, it’s easier to keep it up.
I often have a blogging holiday. I started with the best intentions - and I tend to be busier on the blog (!) during term time when I use it to set up resources for my students. But after a while it felt like a tail wagging the dog. Important daily face-to-face interactions with family and friends were ‘getting in the way’ of my blogging time.
I soon realised that keeping traffic stats high was not my sole purpose of life, especially as the stats are no guarantee of *who* is reading and *how much* (if any) of *which item* is being read.
So I’ve adopted a guilt-free, blog-when-it-suits-me policy. People who are interested will check by regularly anyway to see if anything new appears (as I did during your break from Strive Notes). Life is too short to be plugged into the machine.
OK I’m a luddite. But life is good.
