It’s Wednesday so that must mean more blog posts from Jo! Here was me thinking that no one reads my posts when my friends informed me last night they have been having a crafty look for weeks. It seems I have an avid fan in my friend Susie, who eagerly awaits my post today, and [...]

Facebook has fast become a day-to-day work tool for me since joining Strive PR. Whilst many companies may be blocking it or fawning about its use within their workplace, I am becoming increasingly aware of its networking prowess in negating the need to spend time hovering over a sausage-on-a-stick at lengthy networking buffets.
Don’t get me [...]

Mark Hodson, travel writer for the The Times, has posted a list of top 10 tips for travel journalists. Most of them apply to all journalists, actually.
I particularly like his number one tip…don’t be afraid to tell us no. I’m almost as happy to get a no as a yes (well, maybe this [...]

Kami has an interesting post on some research done into the awareness of ethics among public relations professionals and journalists. The survey of 100 journalists and PRs was conducted by Lou of the The State of the Media.
Apparently, out of the 25 per cent of respondents to the survey, only four people cited particular codes [...]

I am back from my holiday! All over far too quickly as usual, but what’s new?
Back to work….
1.Social Media 101: Five Lessons You Can Follow from Your Desk.

The British Computer Society Isle of Man (BCS) held an event this month to look into the future of egaming in the Island.
It took the form of a panel discussion with four industry experts fielding questions from an audience of around 40 BCS members and other interested people.
The panel included John Spellman, CEO of the [...]

My post this week is traveling much further afield than my last, which went as far as Newton Ayecliff.
This week I have been looking at the space industry right here in the Isle of Man, something, I admit, I knew very little about. Space to me was more something boys dream about or the basis [...]

It’s actually happened a bit more quickly than I thought it might. Brian Connelly is launching another blog having just announced the demise of Strumpette a few weeks ago. Like most people who are well and truly bitten by the blogging bug, he just couldn’t help himself.
When it comes to blogging, being obnoxious can be [...]

At the recent CMI event on Web 2.0, the panel was asked what we thought would be the next big thing in social media. My response was that I thought mobile handsets would become a main focus.
I think that once we get secure e-payments via mobile worked out, just about all personal computing will go [...]

Some age old problems with client management have resurfaced for me this week. First of all I had to renege on one interview with a top tier trade magazine because the client’s customer couldn’t find the time, despite assurances that he was available. Grrrrrrrrr!
Then another client backed out of an interview with a UK national [...]

My son asked me, this weekend, what is the distance between Newton Aycliff and Durham? “No idea, Google it!” was my reply.
It now takes just moments to research any subject, yet we apparently have less and less free time? Or are we just trying to cram so much more into a working day?
This week I [...]

Jo’s still away sunning herself in Egypt, so I thought I’d pen a top five this week in her absence. Here’s what I’ve been reading this week, in no particular order.
1. The Case Of The Missing Client hit home with me this week, as I had to make my apologies to a journalist on Computing. [...]

I attended the Junior Chamber of Commerce event last night with guest speaker Jonathan Irving the man behind last summer’s wonderfully successful Peel Bay Festival. For more than an hour he shared with us the highs and lows of trying to get an event like this off the ground.
Particular hightlights were his making Roger Daltry [...]

I have been looking into how the internet is changing the music business. Certainly distribution has been transformed now that music can easily be downloaded and the industry is struggling to cope with piracy as a result.
At the same time, the global popularity of artists such as Snow Patrol and Lily Allen has been credited [...]

Amanda Chapel has quit as the managing editor of Strumpette. Should we believe her this time? Or is this another ruse? I guess only time will tell, but I suspect that we’ve not heard the last of her.

There is certainly a lot of excitement around internet-based technologies and communications as the turnout for the Chartered Management Institute event at the Hilton proved.
I have been so focused on this that I kind of lost track of what is happening in more traditional areas.
But, back in the mid-90s, I bought a load of print [...]

Exciting week for me so far, a promotion! And with the new job title comes a slightly new blog. Something a little different with less about what I am doing and more about what I am reading.
Bare in mind this is new to me so I am keeping it fairly simple to start with. It’s [...]

A leading bank was forced to rethink dropping interest-free overdrafts for those leaving university after UK students harnessed the power of Facebook and pupils at Castle Rushen High School are currently using the same medium to push for the removal of a teacher.
Younger generations intuitively use such media and members of the Chartered Management Institute [...]

The Register is reporting that an Isle of Man-base company has lost a legal suit to keep the face-book.com domain.
“Facebook has wrestled control of the web address face-book.com away from an Isle of Man-based firm that operates it as a revenue-raising link dump.
Manx outfit YOLAPT registered the domain on 3 October 2004, several months after [...]

I am still here so guess I must be doing something right, and the Strive team can’t be all that scary. Admittedly I have had a short escape to the sun, but with the start a new month and the onset of Autumn, the trees are turning rustic, to match my tan, and I am [...]

Starting tomorrow another new Striver, Deana will be contributing to Strive Notes. She’s been with us about a month and is settling in nicely. Although she’s a media heavyweight, this is her first foray into PR side of the equation. She’ll be discussing her journey each week.
Also this week, we’ll have some new stuff from [...]
