Jo’s PR top five
Exciting week for me so far, a promotion! And with the new job title comes a slightly new blog. Something a little different with less about what I am doing and more about what I am reading.
Bare in mind this is new to me so I am keeping it fairly simple to start with. It’s just my ramblings on other blogs, articles, stories, whatever I’ve read and anything I find interesting really. So here goes…
1. Thought I’d go with a fairly obvious choice for the first one 7 Blogging Beginner Mistakes And How to Avoid Them. Although I have been doing this a little while now, in the grand scheme of things a beginner is exactly what I am so I do look at blogs like these. I would recommend any newbie’s like myself to have a look through blogs like these. They do help!
2. I chose this one for one simple reason because I agree with it. It’s a micro, micro, micro world by Mike Driehorst has a small but interesting message. Good media relations are about “targeting the message” and working with the media, “as they prefer”. If you know the client and how they like to work it makes life a lot easier for everyone.
3. I included Companies, Employees, and Social Media requires Trust because I think that trust in your job is very important and it’s something I feel I have here at Strive PR. Hiring people with good faith and not slamming down restriction on what people can and can’t do is a great thing. In my opinion if you show faith in your employees then you will get it in return.
Yes, I understand the arguments against social networking, but people need to be given the benefit of the doubt sometimes. The statement that inspired Jeremiah Owyang “We trust you, as we hire good people” is something that caught my eye. It’s something all employers should maybe think about for the future.
4. Sticking with the social networking subject, yet another article about Facebook yesterday in the Daily Mail. Tories accused of racism over Web photo of blacked-up aide by Rebecca Camber. I am not including it because it’s anything we haven’t heard a 100 times before about Facebook, but just because I find the whole thing in general quite fascinating.
There was a time, and not so long ago I might add, where had I mentioned the words Facebook, Faceparty, My Space, Bebo MSN or other such social networking sites in front of certain, lets call them ‘technologically impaired’ members of the older generation, that all I got in return was a look of utter confusion.
For me it was something my friends at university and I used to put pictures and silly comments on and nothing more. Now, it’s something that has taken over conversations in all areas of business and media and I just think its growth is amazing. Even my parents have one and they are definitely guilty of being ‘technologically impaired’ by myself in the past.
The amount of scandal the Facebook phenomenon is bringing with it am sure will continue for some time to come, what’s next? I look forward to finding out.
5. And of course One month in PR the new addition to the blog by Deana. Deana is back from her travels and has just published her first Strive blog. I just wanted to use this chance to welcome her!
On the subject of travels… I am taking a leaf out of Deana’s book. I am escaping the rain and taking myself off to the sun for a little while, so it’s goodbye from me, but don’t worry I’ll be back.
