Building the perfect music festival

Pete TownsendI attended the Junior Chamber of Commerce event last night with guest speaker Jonathan Irving the man behind last summer’s wonderfully successful Peel Bay Festival.  For more than an hour he shared with us the highs and lows of trying to get an event like this off the ground.

Particular hightlights were his making Roger Daltry a cup of tea and teeny band McFly taking the time to visit a sick child in the hospital. Challenges included getting the fire inspectors to allow them to open the doors and let 5,000+ fans of the The Who in out of the rain and finding out half way through the project that a key staff member was actually quite a bit of a *anker.

Hubby and I had attended one of the shows, Robin Gibb.  We’re not particular fans, but when one of the world’s leading Manxmen does a concert in the Isle of Man, respect is due.  So we went along and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Jonathan is considering doing it again in one form or another.  Let’s hope he does.
