Team Ellan Vannin for Junior Achievement
This week saw my first meeting in the role as volunteer adviser for Junior Achievement -Young Enterprise, Isle of Man. For those who are not aware of the programme, it offers students the opportunity to experience and compete in the world of business and commerce. Each team sets up an individual company to compete against other teams from schools and colleges in their region, the winner has the opportunity then to compete at the overall final in Europe in 2008.
‘Ellan Vannin‘ one of the teams from the Isle of Man College, is the team I will be working with this year. I am excited about seeing them develop their ideas and confidence. It seems pretty competitive, but serious fun. The business experiences the students gain, I very much doubt could be met in a classroom situation.
At first, I guess, I was a little dubious at the prospect of motivating and advising a group of teens. But, phew, was I relieved! I definitely have been assigned a great team; they are really enthusiastic. However, we have a hard act to follow with Sherrilynne having been adviser to last year’s winning company Enigma Enterprises, from Ramsey Grammar School.
