January 4th: Jo’s PR top five

FiveSo, it’s 2008 and yet again Christmas and New Year have come and gone in the blink of an eye. It’s a new year, a new beginning and even a spot of snow!!

1. I have to say I agree with Shel Holtz’s It’s okay to pay…and charge. Even with people in the social media world eager to make money we still assume too much for free. I mean the principle is the same with anything, if it’s free then who cares? I am not familiar with Podcamp Boston personally, but in cases like this, a little charge seems to be the way forward.

2. I chose this, not because I also had trouble with a website, but because I just found the figures a bit strange. Your web host can fail for seven hours out of every month and is still able to qualify as 99 per cent reliable! As Chris says… “Crazy. But true.”

3. Another post in which I found the maths involved to be interesting is 50% of Agency Relationships Last Less Than 2 Years. Believable? From my short experience I’d say definitely. But why? According to the research, many agencies ‘take their eyes of the ball’ too quickly. This is too black and white for my liking. I think it’s easy to blame the agencies and the ‘external factors’ and I’d suggest that sometimes clients need to look sometime at exactly what their asking for and concentrate on keeping their eyes on their own ball!

4. The second one doesn’t really apply to me too much to be honest but I have to say I will definitely be trying to adopt points one and two into my own list of New Years resolutions. So far all I have is my new healthy eating promise, day four and going well, only a lifetime to go….

5. Keeping with the theme of New Years ‘Irresolutions’…Nearly a quarter of people setting resolutions relapse in the first week, I would have guessed more!

  1. This is very interesting list Jo. I think your views on agency/client relationships is interesting and agree that, as in any human relationship, the responsibility for success is 50//50.

Good luck with your resolution on ‘more commenting’. I’m joining you on that one!
