January 10th: Jo’s PR top five
A new week brings a new post from Jo!
1. Is PR ready for 2008? After reading this am not so sure.
2. The McCanns are in talks about bringing the story of missing Madeline to the Hollywood big screen. Apparently there trying to bring the story to a ‘bigger audience’ in attempts to find Madeline? The Elizabeth Smart Story made in 2003 is the inspiration behind these talks. Elizabeth Smart was thankfully found after eight long months of misery for her parents, and after nearly nine months of misery themselves the McCanns are hoping for the same.
3. Gordon Brown brings PR supremo Stephen Carter into number 10! Fancy that.
4. Shel Holz recommends anyone in the PR world with tech clients view John C. Dvorak’s video pod cast CrankyGeeks, so I thought I’d give it a look. I know I agree that PR firms are driving the coverage of technology in the press. It seems to have caused quite a stir!
5. 2007 has been recognised as the year of social media. That, however was before 2008 came along. So if you thought you had heard the last of the social media buzz then think again. Instead follow the 10 Simple Steps To Social Media Success In 2008, strengthening your on-line footprint is the future.

Elizabeth Smart was missing for nine months, not eight. And those nine months were more miserable for her than her parents.
Apologies. I read – “Eight months into the girl’s disappearance, hopes for her safety were growing dim — until, miraculously, she was spotted only a short distance from her home, accompanied by a pair of bizarre and seriously disturbed personalities, Brian David “Emmanuel” Mitchell and Wanda Barzee”- From this I assumed this is when she was found, my mistake!
In relation to your other comment…
I don’t believe I actually said the parents were suffering more then the children themselves. The girls are the victims, it goes without saying in regard to BOTH Madeline and Elizabeth. It just wasn’t really the point of the blog.
On this particular occasion it was the media and the efforts of the parents I was discussing, not the girls. I pretty much think it’s a time of misery all round for everyone involved, just in different ways. It’s not a competition!
