February 12: Jo’s PR top five

A bit early this time, but the rest of the week is manic so here’s my pick of great posts from the past few days:
1. If you want to make it big in journalism just take a leaf out of Julia Allison’s book. Forget the Five Ws. Today, Journalism’s About the Letter “I”

2. Cracking down on illegal Internet downloading. A good idea maybe, but will it work? I am not entirely convinced!

3. The work place is not a democracy, It’s not about employee rights. Employers can impose whatever rules they want on their employees if it’s in the best interests of the company. That’s the view of one caller, but the social media debate goes on…

4. Simplicity is a Virtue: PR Could Use More of it. I couldn’t agree more. I really liked this one, simple, honest and true.

The Guardian5. The Archbishop of Canterbury really has gotten himself into a spot of bother this week hasn’t he? Public opinion so far has been loud and negative. This is no exception.

  1. Great picks.

I especially liked the Julia Allison piece too.

    Best,
    Rich

  2. I hate the cult of journalistic celebrity with a venom that just can’t be put into words: as a journalist your job is to tell the story. If you want to be the story, run for office!

  3. I couldn’t agree more! Please don’t confuse my inclusion of the blog with encouragement of journalistic celebrity. While looking at Julia’s blog I couldn’t help but notice the abundance of photographs, (mainly of herself) but a great lack of writing?

But I don’t think we can solely blame her, (or others like her) the press and the public must accept their part too. All we can do is wait and hope that her 15 minutes of fame ends sooner, rather then later. Before long the Julia Allison’s, Jade Goody’s and Kerry Katona’s of the world will be nothing but distant memories! - We hope :)
