		<description>You are right that blogging changes everything and it changes nothing.  In a way, it is just a new communications medium and communications professionals continue to fill the same need that they currently fill, but adding a new medium or channel.  On the other hand, social media is a very unique medium with amazing new characteristics not seen before in all of the &quot;traditional&quot; media.  Its unique two-way nature, where anyone can publish, consume or participate changes everything.  

I do agree with your comment that the clever PR person will advise their client to get blogging, but I generally recommend it as a 3rd of 4th step.  I usually recommend that they start with 1. start with listening to the conversation, learning/finding the active communities of conversation, hearing what customers &amp; influencers are saying, then 2. start responding to questions and participating through comments, twitter, etc. and making valuable online connections.   Then the company can start telling their own story on their blog with a greater degree of success.  

Of course, there are success stories that started with blogging but they generally added all three disciplines together (listening, participating and sharing your story through blogging).

Nice blog, btw... you are one of those I envy who somehow finds a way to post new content frequently which is really hard so good job!</description>

		<description>I&#039;d like to pick up on your point about peer review. I agree that this is an important part of the editorial process in traditional media. But it does take place in the blogosphere too. It&#039;s just  that it takes place after publication is all.  The community will identify errors, debate angles, check copy faster than you can blink an eye.  The difference is when the collaboration takes place and size of the knowledge and skills pool taking part in the process.</description>
