October 17: PR top 5
A couple of sleepless nights means that I’ve had time to catch up on my reading. Here’s some stuff I really liked.
1. Some excellent advice for PR newbies from Matthew Stibbe. Don’t ring and say, ‘Did you get the press release?’ Sound familiar anyone?
2. More good advice. How to write headlines that pop, from Flack’s Revenge.
3. Leo explains to company directors what social media can do for them.
4. Todd Defren explains why sacking the PR agency to save money during tough times is such a bad idea.
5. Seth Godin explains how social media fulfills a basic human need ‘to be connected, to make a difference, to matter, to be missed.’

There is something strangely unnerving – at least to me – about that picture of an arm with writing all over it. Could I talk you into running more pictures of sea otters? I have met many of them in my canoe (you know where) over the years and they are every bit as endearing as they seem to be. I’m thinking of something like this:

Or this:

Other than that, hey, no problem.
By the way, you know what happens if you fall asleep in your canoe and sea otters are nearby? Nothing. Unless a shark comes by and then they make a lot of noise. A good deal, it seems to me.
I know all about sleepless nights. We all need more sea otters.
There are some things only Canadians can ever understand …
They are very cute, it’s true. But I kinda like the arm too.
