Jan 18: PR top 5

It’s a really busy time for us, but I’ve been trying to keep an eye on who’s saying what. Here are my picks of some of the best content from the last week or so.
1. Dave Winer explains how investigative research happens in the blogosphere. But is this collaborative, open approach really journalism? I say yes. The process mirrors what reporters and editors do, it’s just the tools and resources that differ.
2. Jessica Smith outlines ten misconceptions about mommy bloggers. I like the one about mommy bloggers being frumpy and sitting around in sweats all day. So what’s wrong with that?!
3. Almost every day we read about the demise of the newspaper with redundancies being announced all over. Out of the doom and gloom comes a really good idea. The Printed Blog takes hyper local online content and puts it into the hands of people in community. Brilliant!
4. Although I’ve been reading his blog forever, I finally got to meet Joseph Thornley a few weeks ago. I loved his post about US Airways flight that crash landed in the Hudson River a few days ago. With everyone else banging on about how smart technology reported the story…Joseph highlights some not so clever stuff.
5. Neville’s written a really good post about RSS in the enterprise. He’s right that most people are still unaware of RSS and don’t really understand the benefits it offers organisations. I think this will change. If 2007 was the year of Facebook and 2008 was the year of Twitter, please let 2009 be the year of RSS.

Sherrilynne, I’m glad you liked the post about the failure of Google’s ad placement algorithm. I hesitated to post it because I was worried that others might consider it a trivialization of a serious situation (the air crash.) But given that everyone emerged safe from the crash, I took a chance.
@Joseph Thornley, I think you made a good call…
