February 22nd: PR top 5

I’ve been neglecting my Top 5 lists of late, owing to the pressures of work. But that doesn’t mean I’ve not been keeping an eye online. Lots of great stories are being told. Here’s what I liked this week:
1. Jade Goody, PR and the media is a thoughtful post by Heather Yaxley which reflects my views of a young woman’s personal tragedy that is playing out in Britain right now. Max Clifford’s use of this poor woman’s illness to boost his own media profile is shocking (well it would be, but it’s what Max does).
2. Richard Edelman takes on Jeff Jarvis with We will prove you wrong. Here, he debunks the PR myths laid out by Jarvis in his new book What would Google Do?
3. Neville Hobson does a good analysis of the recruitment advert being run to find a director of digital engagement for the UK government’s Cabinate Office. Neville’s right about it being a formidable challenge based on the ad’s description. I can’t wait to see who ends up getting the job. I can think of only one viable candidate. (Hint: He created heaven and Earth and on the seventh day, he rested.)
4. Paul Stallard has written a very good post on how to get the best PR out of an exhibition.
5. With Two buns in the oven, Owen Cutajar continues to blend his personal, professional and online lives beautifully on his popular blog. His naked honesty and devotion to ‘keeping it real’ is what makes it work and keeps people coming back.
