Profit from UGC?

What if you put up a website and millions of people around the world wrote on it and posted items of interest making you a millionaire with very little effort? Sounds great doesn’t it? So why isn’t everyone doing it?
Well lots are. There’s YouTube, Flickr, Digg! and Wikipedia along with the uncounted similar sites that are popping up all over the internet. The concept of user-generated content (UGC) is now proven.
People will freely contribute their work, ideas and creativity to a website it’s true, but a few questions remain. ‘Where do you make money?’ ‘How do you stand out?’ and ‘Where do you find the time?’ These were the questions examined by a panel of experts on Day One of the recent South By Southwest Interactive (SXSWi) Festival in Austin.
