Recession lessons for PRs

There’s an interesting story it today’s Telegraph about the effect any economic downturn might have on the PR industry.
Columnist Richard Rivlin writes, “…the industry of spin continues to enjoy strong growth compared with advertising and other parts of the marketing mix…”
The article then goes on to profile Freshwater as a firm that is destined to [...]

Second Life vice

The Telegraph’s Chris Stevens has an interesting article about how people are taking real life vices into virtual worlds. He says, “What began as an idyllic retreat for gamers and sci-fi fans has begun to sprout rotten polygons. From real-life murders and underground sweatshops, to money-laundering [...]

The iPOD generation

The Telegraph has an excellent article about how large companies are tapping new media formats to improve internal communication.
Journalist Robert Miller attended  Melcrum conference on social media and reports on how IBM and Cadbury Schweppes are using podcasts and RSS to bolster employee relations.  It’s a good read. Check it out.

Talk PR outed by Telegraph diarist

The Press Gazette is running a story about Talk PR telling journalists they could only attend a party if they promised to give the sponsor, Perrier Jouet champagne, a mention.
According to the story, The Sunday Telegraph’s Tim Walker said Talk PR director Anna Garrett invited him to last week’s Party Belle Époque on condition of getting a mention.  [...]

Indy titles face £5m loss

You might have read in today’s Telegraph that the publisher of the Independent and Independent on Sunday newspapers said its flagship British titles would lose more than £5m this year despite improving advertising revenues and readership.  It’s not exactly earth-shattering news given state of transition the newspaper industry is in currently.
What is interesting is the Indy’s [...]

Axe to fall at Telegraph

Following in the footsteps of the Financial Times, The Telegraph has announced that it plans to morph from being a newspaper into a 24-hours news organisation providing information across a wide range of platform.
Unfortunately this means that jobs will go, in addition to the 90+ voluntary redundancies that took place earlier this year.
Chief Executive [...]

Telegraph travel incorporates reader generated content

I keep an eye on the travel sector media because Strive consultants work for client Luxury Explorer, the world atlas of luxury travel.
I was pleased to see Francisca Kellett, online travel editor at the Telegraph, is adding a bunch of new features to the Web site.  “Your Heaven & Hell” will let readers contribute their [...]
