Four steps to a great product news release

1. Make sure you thoroughly understand the product. Talk to at least two people involved in its development and promotion. Make sure you have a solid grasp of all the features and benefits. Writing

2. Contrast features to those of competitive products. Focus on competitors that have at least a double digit share of the market. Be objective and focus on the positives to show how this product stacks up.

3. Talk to a customer. If possible, talk to a competitor’s customer. This is the single most useful way to reveal where the real customer appeal lies. Supplement this information with any relevant market data.

4. Determine objections. What are the primary reasons people find for not buying the product? Is it a preference for a competitor, price resistance, a negative bias, ignorance or misinformation? Whatever you discover, make overcoming this the main objective of the release.
