Junior Achievement Isle of Man
Yesterday more than 250 high school students were on hand for the launch of Junior Achievement’s new Introduction to Business Programme at the Methodist Promenade Church in Douglas in the Isle of Man.
At the day-long event, students took part in a business game designed to simulate real life business situations. The game, devised by OSA Recruitment, Training & Development, encouraged problem solving, teamwork and other vital business skills among participants.
In addition, dozens of volunteers from the island’s business community were on hand to conduct question and answer sessions dealing with the roles various directors including IT, finance, marketing, sales, HR, company secretarial and operations. Several managing directors are also on hand to talk about their careers and their roles inside their organisations.
And so was I. I was delighted to take part in two marketing sessions with about 130 students in total. I was wonderful to see the enthusiastic interest these young people are taking in business and commerce, and the thought they are already giving their future careers. I explained what PR is and its role in the business world, and hopefully inspired a few to consider it as a career.
Junior Achievement Isle of Man, part of the international organisation, is a Manx business education charity delivering innovative programmes to young people with the aim to inspire a culture of enterprise and to gain real live business skills and awareness.
I’m really excited to take on the role as a business adviser to a group of young people from Ramsey Grammar School this year. And Strive Public Relations is handling the on island PR for the organisation.
